New Zealand is to pay $7.5 million to help fund new car rental service
New Zealand’s Minister of Transport, Transport Minister Paula Bennett, says the government is prepared to pay up to $7 million to support the launch of a new car booking app in New Zealand.
She announced the new fund to help establish the Car Sharing program.
The car sharing service will be available in the New Zealand market and will have a global reach.
The fund is set to be announced in the coming weeks, Ms Bennett said.
Car sharing will be a partnership between the Government of New Zealand and a car rental company.
The company will be responsible for setting up and maintaining a network of car rental kiosks, she said.
The New Zealand Government is the only country to have implemented a nationwide car sharing scheme.
The Minister of Transportation said she hoped the app would help to improve public transport in New Zeland and the country.
New Zealand is a highly diverse country, she added.
